Description
Chewy on the outside, soft and cakey on the inside, these cookies are packed with a molten Oreo center that oozes out when you bite into them. They are freezer-friendly, simple to make, and kid-approved.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (220g) packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups (255g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 12 full standard Oreo cookies
- Extra chocolate chips (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Freeze the 12 Oreo cookies on a baking sheet or plate for 15-30 minutes until rock hard.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium-high speed for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Reduce mixer speed to medium-low. Add eggs one at a time, mixing just until incorporated. Add vanilla extract and mix briefly. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture on low speed. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Switch to a silicone spatula and gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Scoop about 1.5 tablespoons of dough, flatten into a disc, place one frozen Oreo in the center, and fold the dough over to seal completely. Roll into a ball.
- Place stuffed dough balls on parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and lightly golden, but centers still look soft.
- Let cookies sit on the hot pan for 5 minutes to set, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Notes
Ensure butter is softened, not melted, for chewy texture. Freeze Oreos thoroughly to prevent leaking. Do not overbake; cookies continue to cook on the hot pan. For extra flavor, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before baking. Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes to prevent spreading.
