Description
A cozy, single-serving spiced sangria made with white wine, apple cider, and warm spices. This budget-friendly recipe costs around $3 and takes only 5-7 minutes to prepare.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 oz (150 ml) white wine (e.g., Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
- 4 oz (120 ml) apple cider
- 1 small cinnamon stick (2 inches)
- 1 pod star anise
- 1 slice fresh orange (1 oz / 28 g)
- 1 tsp brown sugar or honey (optional)
Instructions
- Pour white wine and apple cider into a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl. Add brown sugar or honey if using, and stir to dissolve.
- Add the cinnamon stick and star anise pod. Let the mixture sit for a minute while it begins to heat up to release spice oils.
- Warm gently on low heat on the stove or in the microwave at 50% power. Heat for 3-4 minutes until hot but not simmering or boiling. Avoid boiling to preserve alcohol content.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as needed.
- Remove cinnamon stick and star anise. Pour into a mug, garnish with the orange slice, and serve immediately.
Notes
Do not boil the wine, as it will evaporate the alcohol and alter the flavor. The drink is best made fresh and does not store well. Star anise and cinnamon sticks can be dried and reused up to three times. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute wine with additional apple cider or sparkling apple cider.
